“Blow the dust off the clock. Your watches are behind the times. Throw open the heavy curtains which are so dear to you… You do not even suspect that the day has already dawned outside”

A wise person once said: What we are is God’s gift to us, but what we become is our gift to God.

In the Book of Romans 12 it is written that God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So tonight we are celebrating and receiving our latest academic achievement, new goals, new visions and challenges.

We are ever so blessed to be able to share the excellence and joy of this occasion with fellow academia’s, and beloved family and friends. In the process of changing yourself, take as many others as possible with you through zeal, enthusiasm and inspiration.

The Bible states that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34.)

Contrary to what you may have heard, talk is not cheap. Talk is very expensive. We should know that our words are powerful. What we say affects what we get from others, and what others get from us. When we speak wrongly, it lessens our ability to see and hear the will of God – To lose the very intend of Him regarding even our eternal destiny.

We need to change our vocabulary into words of life and light. Our talk should always rise to the level of the Word of God. Your negative words will ultimately lead you into quitting, yes. Quitting of a sort either your work, or marriage, or calling, yes, even your life.

Every day we make decisions. Daily we are confronted with opinions. Choose one or the other, for instance;

·      Choose being better versus being bitter

·      Enthusiasm versus Luke warmness

·      “Get up” versus “Give up”

·      Changing versus quitting

Speaking about economics, it is argued that fear and worry are interest paid in advance on something you may never own.

An old Swedish proverb says, “Worry gives a small thing a big shadow.”

Worry is simply the misuse of Gods creative imagination, that wonderful imagination which God has placed within each of us. By the way you cannot buy it in a shop or order it through email. But lending your ears and eyes to the devil you can get your imagination defiled and evil. The Word says “cast down the evil imaginations.”

When fear rises in your mind, you should learn to expect the opposite in your life. 1 Peter 5:5,7.

Statistically most people quit right on the verge of success. Often it is right at their fingertips when losing it. The only way we can lose, is to quit. Quitting can even keep us from reaching God’s ultimate goal in our lives.

Speaking of goals. A goal is a dream with a deadline. The key to successful goal–setting is revealed in scripture (Habakkuk 2:2.)  I do believe: success starts with a dream, once the dream becomes a vision:

·      The vision must be written down – otherwise it remains a dream

·      When you commit to something in writing – commitment to achievement will follow. It is a natural law. God put his vision down in paper form – it is readily available and is called the Bible.

·      The secret to achieve your goal is to run to it.

·      By walking you can easily change direction and go the wrong way.

Remember, you can’t stroll to a goal - thus get fit to run. Never take direction from a crowd for your personal life and never choose to quit just because somebody else disagrees with you. Always remember you are made, one of a kind, your fingerprints testify to that.

We are called to stand out, not blend in. One of the greatest compliments that anybody can give you is to say that you are different.

On Failure:

There is one guaranteed formula for failure, and that is to try to please everyone. Often times, it is a challenge for many people to discern that which is good from that which is right. The higher responsibility of course is always to do the right things. The things that we’re all called for, do it with excellence.

Encourage each other.

Encouragement is awesome.

It can actually change the course of another person’s day, week or life or status. Still, what an ultimate encouragement, to realize that God has reserved only the best for all of us. Some of you had to look your fear in the face to gain strength, courage and confidence by experience to complete your degrees.

Conclusion:

In Proverbs 24 we read: Any enterprise is built by wise planning, becomes strong through common sense, and profits wonderfully by keeping abreast of the facts.

Simply stated; Effective goal-setting and planning provides an opportunity to bring the future to the present to deal with it today.

You will find that achievement is easy when your outer goals become an inner commitment.

Always involve yourself with something that’s bigger than you are, because that’s where God is.

Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect, will of God.”

His will for you all to gain victory eternally. When entering the Post Modern Era, don’t ask where the time has gone, rather tell time where to go.

Thus said, face your fears of failure and dust off those long forlorn dreams, write it down and start running for your  goals. Remember to stop every day and look at the size of God.

Be blessed and smile, it adds to our face value.
